Surpora Thomas, MBA, BSN, RN

For over forty-four years, Mrs. Surpora Thomas has been an active nurse with Children’s Hospital, where she has demonstrated excellent skills as a clinical nurse as well as an administrator. Her determination and character have made her a strong advocate for patients and the nursing profession. She is highly respected by physicians, administrators, and the board of trustees at Children’s Hospital where she developed an acuity based charging system and a professional development program for nurses.

Mrs. Thomas currently serves Children’s Hospital as Senior Vice-President of Nursing and Chief Executive Nurse. In 2001, the Surpora Thomas Pediatric Nursing Education and Research Center was dedicated in her honor by the Children’s Hospital Board of Trustees. In 2003, Mrs.Thomas was inducted into the Alabama Nursing Hall of Fame by the Capstone College of Nursing Board of Visitors. She was also honored as one of fifteen Outstanding African-American Nurses in Alabama at Samford University’s Ida B. Moffett School of Nursing.
