William Kendrick Hare, PhD, MD *

At native of Browns, Alabama, Dr. Kendrick Hare went on to receive a PhD in neurology from the Medical College at Northwestern, and an MD from Cornell University. Dr. Hare, a professor of pharmacology, was the first full time Chairman of the Department of Pediatrics at the Medical College of Alabama in Birmingham where he was known for recruiting outstanding full-time faculty members. His pediatric research was particularly interested in the growth and development of infants and with birth defects. He served on the faculty for 27 years. During the last seven years, he and his wife, Dr. Ruth S. Hare, served in Bangladesh designing therapy for cholera patients. Dr. William Hare was recognized by the University of Alabama Board of Trustees in 1984 as a brilliant scientist with deep concern for others.
